Alan Bates, Director, Choctaw County Economic Development Foundation

Alan Bates has served as Director of the Choctaw County Economic Development Foundation since January, 2002.  His primary focus has been the development and recruitment of prospects for the Red Hills Ecoplex industrial park and community projects to enhance the quality of life in Choctaw County.

Prior to his employment with the Choctaw County Economic Development Foundation, Bates spent ten years as Assistant Director of Economic Development for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.  In his capacity with the Choctaw Indians, he assisted in over $200 million in development projects which now comprise the Pearl River Resort, and resulted in an increase of over 2,700 jobs.  Bates was also involved in other commercial and industrial development projects for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, helping to rank the Choctaw Indians as one of the five largest employers in Mississippi.

Bates graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1987.  He participates in numerous organizations including the Mississippi Economic Development Council, East Central Mississippi Economic Council, Mississippi Tourism Association, Mississippi Economic Council, Mississippi Manufacturer’s Association, a National Task Force on Strategic Unconventional Fuels, Holmes Community College Workforce Development Council, Ackerman Rotary Club, and the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District Revolving Loan Program Review Board.
