ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Utilities

Choctaw County is well-equipped to meet the utility needs of its residents and businesses.  One of the primary factors in the location of three power plants in Choctaw County is the availability of necessary energy-related infrastructure.  Each of the utility providers listed below is cognizant of the community expectations of high quality service and strives to meet those expectations on a daily basis.

Choctaw County Utilities

Electricity
Tennessee Valley Authority
- Choctaw County is part of the TVA power supply network.  TVA is the nation’s largest public power company, serving about 8.5 million customers through 158 distributors.

4-County Electric Power Association – the local distributor of electricity.  You will find the rates of TVA and 4-County Electric Power Association competitive with any area.  We can arrange to have a representative of 4-County explain the rates available depending upon your electricity needs.  4-County Electric Power Association’s rates are based on the actual cost of providing electric service to consumer/members. These costs include wholesale power costs from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the cost of operating and maintaining lines and equipment, taxes and interest expenses.

4-County operates on a non-profit basis. Any revenues collected in excess of the actual cost of operation provide for members/ownership/equity in the electric cooperative.

Water and Sewer
There are several water associations in Choctaw County, but the primary supplier to our industrial sites and buildings is Choctaw Water Association.

Natural Gas
Atmos Energy provides natural gas to much of the county, while the Town of Weir provides natural gas to its residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Telecommunications
Service to the County is provided by two primary providers – Delta Telephone Company and AT&T.  Delta provides service in and around the Ackerman and the Chester community, while BellSouth provides service to the remainder of the County.
